Anna Hamilton joined the Western District of Tennessee Federal Defender after working with the Offices of the Shelby County Public Defender’s Capital Defense Team. Anna was led to a career in public defense because she believes that no one is as bad as their worst deed and her clients’ stories should be told with kindness and compassion. She worked on several death penalty trials and life without parole cases during the course of her time with the Capital Defense Team.
Ms. Hamilton received her Bachelor of Arts in Writing and Communication from Maryville College where she served as editor-in-chief of the college newspaper, The Highland Echo from 2006-2007. She earned her law degree from the University of Memphis, Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law where she was named the 2012 National Association of Women Lawyers Outstanding Law Student. She also served on the University of Memphis Law Review as a staff member and then later as a Notes Editor on the editorial board.
